Choosing the right program is essential for your success in affiliate marketing. Many affiliate marketers want to earn money fast and therefore they want to market a bandwagon or 'Hot' product, even though the product may not appeal to them. You should always choose a product that appeals to you. Do some research about it to see if there is any demand for the same. The product selected should be relevant to the subject of your site. If you run a site on gardening than you should only promote products which are related to it. Instead, if you try to promote a golf program through it, you may not find any customers.

* Not using the product yourself:

Before starting to promote a product or service, try and test it yourself. You must know the product which you are promoting. By using the product/service, you can see whether it delivers what it promises. Start promoting a product or service only when you are convinced about the advantages of using the same. This will make promoting of the product easier for you.

* Joining too many affiliate programs:

As affiliate programs are free and easy to join, many affiliate marketers tend to join a number of programs at the same time. They think that by promoting a number of programs simultaneously, they can maximize their earnings. But this is not true. It is always better to concentrate on one or two programs than to promote multiple programs at the same time. This is particularly true for newbie affiliate marketers. They must start with one or two good programs offering high commissions (at least 40%). After being successful with these programs, they can start promoting other programs simultaneously.
